Eat with your Eyes: Sour Giant Gummi BearsIt’s a dream of some folks to have giant versions of their favorites. I found these Sour Super Gummi Bears. They’re about twice the height of a regular gummi bear, as you can see, pretty huge. (More flat though than three dimensional like other gummis.) I bought these online last month but when they arrived I was a little disappointed and decided not to review them. They’re not bad, but there are three versions - cherry-orange, cherry-pineapple and lemon-lime. The fact that I don’t like cherry much makes 2/3 of them unappealing to me. Eat with your Eyes: Klik Double CrunchYou can consider this a mini-review of the Klik Double Crunch bar from Israel. It’s a milk chocolate coated cereal bar with nougat and almonds. (Package photo here.) What it felt like to me was a mass of loosely packed crunchy cereal spheres lightly coated with a nougatine/cream and then covered with milk chocolate. The effect is that the crunch has powerful grain taste to it, but it’s not overly sweet. It’s a little nutty, more on the hazelnut side of things than almond. It’s quite light ... the bar looks huge but is really only 1.42 ounces and 210 calories. I’d definitely buy it again. I picked mine up at Munchies, a Kosher candy shop on Pico Blvd. POSTED BY Cybele AT 12:31 pm Candy • Featured News • Fun Stuff • Photography • Saturday, February 27, 2010
Eat with your Eyes: Cadbury Mini EggsDrug stores are clever, they put huge bins of tasty candy on sale and right next to the line at the registers. I couldn’t resist picking up a bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs. You can check out the review from the archives. Eat with your Eyes: Christopher ElbowWhen I’m in San Francisco I like to stop at Christopher Elbow Chocolates for a few pieces and some hot chocolate. (It’s always cold enough for hot chocolate in San Francisco.) Previous review of chocolate bar and my first encounter with Christopher Elbow pieces. Eat with your Eyes: Candy LogsA building kit made from compressed dextrose. The little jar was kind of like a Play-Doh tub but held actual non-toxic toys you can eat. They were very dense, crunchy and kind of hard to bite. But left sitting out they did really well. Yellow was banana, like the old Wacky Packs. The top of the little package was a roof that can go on top of the little house. POSTED BY Cybele AT 8:18 am Candy • Featured News • Fun Stuff • Photography • Wednesday, February 24, 2010
Eat with your Eyes: RichartI don’t remember what flavors these Richart Petits were, but they were cute as buttons. POSTED BY Cybele AT 4:58 am Candy • Featured News • Fun Stuff • Photography • Monday, February 22, 2010
Eat with your Eyes: CucuIf there’s a kind of candy that I buy and rarely review, it’s Japanese products. Here’s one of them, it’s called Cucu, it’s a milky hard candy flavored with green tea, and then filled with a little pocket of matcha (green tea powder). The pieces were just too cute, little cubes, about the size of a hazelnut in the shell but with flat sides. Here’s what the package looked like. Eat with your Eyes: Jersey MilkAs Canada is hosting the Winter Olympics, my thoughts have turned to all the wonderful Canadian candies the athletes and spectators must have access to. Canada has great candy, a wonderful mix of American, British and French confectionery traditions along with their own innovations. Neilson’s Jersey Milk is one of those uniquely Canadian chocolate bars. Here’s a fun peek at a display of them from the 70s at a store. I photographed this bar and had a bite of it, but several days later before I got a chance to eat it, it got melted. Makes me jealous of Canada and how they don’t have that problem as often as us Southern Californians do. POSTED BY Cybele AT 7:12 am Candy • Featured News • Fun Stuff • Photography •
