Just a quick post to say Happy Easter to my Christian readers (and anyone who loves Easter candy).

The Monday after Easter marks the slow close of Candy Season until stuff starts appearing on the shelves for Halloween.
I hope you find some good deals! Here’s a mini-review of this Hershey’s Hoppy Egg Filler hollow rabbit.

This tall treat is from Hershey’s and made in the US. (The giant Hershey’s Kisses are now made in Mexico.)
The box makes him look formidable at 18 inches high. But the actual bunny inside is only 13 inches tall. I took his photo yesterday and ate his ear this morning for breakfast.
As far as solidness goes, he is technically hollow, but the shell is quite thick. This rabbit is 20 ounces, so there’s a lot of chocolate there. I had to take two bites of his ear ... and still didn’t hit air. (Instead I ended up poking him with a knife to find out how far the ear mass went.)
The chocolate was mediocre. It’s sweet, a bit grainy. It has only a hint of the distinctive Hershey’s tangy bite to it. I’m wondering if part of it is that he’s not really “sealed” in that box. He’s surrounded by an absurd amount of packaging, but none of it is airtight and the box is just closed with a little piece of tape. For $20 or so, which is what this guy is supposed to retail for, I think I want smaller but better.
I have to say that he was impressive looking and I’m sure any child will be thrilled to find one today ... or even on Tuesday.
What was your Easter breakfast?

My favorites!
The only Hershey Bunny I ever see is the solid one, the Speedy Bunny
which, to me, always makes me think it would taste like Nestle Quik
Breakfast was the usual, sugar free popsicles, then 2 hours of biking. Easter is one of my 5 “Food Days” of the year when I eat what I want and how much I want for 24 hours! I lost 75 pounds back in 2001 and this is the only way I keep my sanity the rest of the year. A heaping collection of unwrapped Christmas, Halloween, last Easter and various other delights await my swooning contenance! Your blog has inspired me to hit the stores this Easter candy season for new items to add to the collection! Viva la candy blogg!!
bunny shaped pancakes. mmmmmmmmm.
I lost 13 pounds prior to Easter just to gobble up goodies during Spring BReak, Now it’s time to go back on diet an dlsoe the 13 lbs I lost beofre. Who won the MnM contest?
LOL my breakfast was a cinnimon bun from last night’s party
Breakfast was a tasty dark chocolate marzipan egg (or three) from Aldi - their house brand Choceur (sp?). Also got the Choceur bunny for my daughter (looks just like a Dove brand bunny) but haven’t tried it yet. The Aldi jelly belly knock offs were ok. For the price Aldi candy is really good. I really enjoy your site and appreciate all the great information…
ummm…... i won the M & M’s contest. I think it was the 1st time i’ve ever won anything!!!!

oh hah I thought you asked what was in our easter baskets
oops
I had a 250g chocolate bunny and a large egg-shaped nostalgic tin full of chocolate eggs delivered from Switzerland’s Sprungli online shop. I’ve been doing this for 4 years already. I’ve loved Sprungli’s ever since I first visited the Zurich store many many years ago. Now my nephews get to enjoy them as well (I organize the annual egg painting).
I got a Lindt chocolate gift set http://nakayoshilife.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-easter-gift.html it’s truly yum and the can is so cute!
I had a bowl of oatmeal and three marshmallow bunnies.
I had a Malley’s dark chocolate coconut egg.
I LOVE the close up of Hoppy peeking at me! Cybele, I am a fan of both your writing and your photography! (and am truly in awe of your dedication to candy, and the fact that you found such a creative outlet for it!) Happy (by this time, belated) Easter to you! I’m off to go find some half-off candy!
I don’t think 50% off candy is going to be available in my town - I had a candy crisis over the weekend (the candy I was sure I bought a month ago and stowed in the gift closet - not there! still not sure if I put it somewhere else or if I just didn’t buy any) and found almost nothing worth buying in the stores I checked. There were a lot of those bunny basket eggs at Target, but I knew better than to buy them!
So I’m not the only one who divides the year into Candy Season and Non-Candy Season. If this past year was any indication, we will probably start sweeing the Halloween stuff sometime around the last week of August. The back-to-school rush should be over by then.
There won’t be much 50% off Easter candy this year - actually there was NO candy at the supermarket yesterday. Wegmans has been out of Just Born jelly beans for weeks and they were the only store that I found them in this year. I shoud have stocked up, but I only bought one bag :( I guess the stores didn’t want to have extra stock of candy that they couldn’t sell.
I had Mike & Ike jelly beans for breakfast with a Hershey’s kiss chaser
And after typing that comment yesterday, a lightbulb lit up over my head and I thought of one more place that I didn’t look. I checked when I got home that evening and sure enough - the missing Easter candy!
I thought I recognized that rabbit!! I picked one up on clearance for the annual Easter Shot Hunt (postponed until this last Sat.)
I am happy to report that he made a fine centerpiece and was devoured within 4 hours.
