Tootsie Pops - Regular & Super Sized
I picked up two, in my favorite flavors, Orange and Grape and thought I’d compare them to the classic sized ones. The big ones are .85 ounces and regulars are .60 ounces.
But here’s the thing ... there’s nothing wrong with the size of the regular Tootsie Pop. In fact, it’s darn near perfect. It actually fits inside my mouth. Not that the .85 ounce one doesn’t, but the problem is that I can’t put it between my cheek and my teeth. Maybe with some careful, long-term stretching, but then I’ll probably be left with Tootsie-Jowl. The other complaint is that the jumbo pops are wrapped in some sort of plasticized paper instead of the classic waxed paper. While this may provide a better seal on the candy (I think they hot melt it to the stick or something) this makes it frustrating to open and the wrapper simply cannot be used to wrap back around the partially eaten pop ... it just pops open unless you use some tape on it. (I usually save the wrapper to wrap up my stick that may be, well, sticky, and put it in my bag until I can dispose of it properly if need be.)
I love Tootsie Pops, they’re an ideal summer candy, as they have no melting issues but still offer a sightly chocolatey flavor. My ranking of the current flavor offerings: 1. Orange Your mileage may vary. I give the traditional Tootsie Pops a 9 out of 10 ... the new jumbo sized ones get a 7 out of 10 ... yeah, size matters. Tootsie Pops also come in miniatures, which look about the size of a Dum Dum pop. I’ve had them before, I tend to pull the stick out right away and crunch it up (rather like the old Tootsie Pop Drops). Read more about the history of the Tootsie Pop at their site and their TV spots. Here’s the classic one: Here’s the new one: Which do you prefer?

Commenting is not available in this channel entry.I like the old commercial better. It could be nostalgia but it just has a better view. I don’t even like the vibrant colours in the newer one.
Besides, little Johnny there looks weird with the new haircut.
And I like the sketch drawings.
I think I’ve ever only eaten chocolate tootsie pops. I’m not a fan of fruit and chocolate together.
The old commercial of course!
I love tootsie pops…they have a strawberry flavor now too. Have you tried it? It’s quite good!
I like the new commercial better overall because it’s more pleasant to look at.. plus the child is clothed.
The one thing I don’t like: the way the Tootsie Pops are illustrated at the end being licked into oblivion. It’s just too darn perfect, that’s not how it happens! It was better in the old one.
I agree. They do make good summer treats. I use the rappers for art or making wallets.
I like both commericals equally well.
I can’t imagine ever not finishing a Tootsie Roll Pop. I can’t believe anyone, seriously, eats half of one and wraps it back up!
I like the old commercial better.
I love tootsie pops but I think I will stick with the regular size. =) My favourites are grape, strawberry and cherry…oh and sometimes the chocolate one.
Eurgh, the new one is awful!
How could they replace the original commercial with a more graphic 21st century, 3-D version? The old one holds a lot of nostalgia.
it doesn’t compare.
of course the old one :]
it’s a classic.
I agree the old one is a classic. I even have a tshirt with the owl on it. Love it. I don’t think I’ve ever had a lime tootsie pop I always go for grape. But I might like lime too.
I just discovered your blog- and I have a quick question, sort of related to this topic. Do you remember Rainbow Pops and Rainbow Drops, they were hard, fruit-flavored candies, that used to be available… somewhere? I seem to remember trying some from a friend about 7 years ago…
CAN’T FIND THE MEGA SIZE TOOTSIE POPS. CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE I CAN ORDER THEM? I HAVE GONE TO THE TOOTSIE POP WEB PAGE BUT THEY DO NOT SELL THE PRODUCT! THANKS
someone - I’m afraid I don’t remember rainbow drops, but I’ll keep looking.
Patricia - there are a couple of places online that sell them in whole boxes of assorted flavors:
http://www.candywarehouse.com/supertootsies.html
http://www.candydirect.com/novelty/Super-Tootsie-Roll-Pops.html
I’m sure there are some other sources as well, but those are two trusted companies.
Thank you!
hi my name is brianna feely im am now 14 i had a question if you get a star on your wrapper than do you get a free sucker.
Does anyone know where I can buy Tootsie Pop Drops? I loved them as a kid and now I’m going blind searching the web for them. Thanks so much\.
Brianna - it’s a myth that you can get a free candy. Sorry.
Traci - Tootsie Pop Drops were discontinued. However, they will be returning early next year.
okay so like i think the commercials are absolutely BAWM! but like i dont really care for them as much as i care for the candy lol
they are soo FREAKiin gewd its like GOOD!

Tootsie pop drawing
The last piece of candy i’ve ate was a Blow pop and that was january 16 of this year
I am currently enjoying a POMEGRANITE tootsie pop. Yes - POMEGRANITE. It tastes nothing like an actual fruit but it is quite tasty! Have you tried this? Today is the first time I have seen one! The wrapper is a bright day-glo reddish orange, which makes no sense, with reddish brown text/pictures on it.
Do you know if this is a limited time flavor? I would love to get more…
Thanks!
I LOVE the pomegranate flavor. I just had one yesterday and they are so tasty!!!!!!! I wish they weren’t limited though. :(
Our family enjoys Tootsie Pops…but lately some of the Pops are badly deformed…as in 1/2 of a sucker…orange and grape predomanately…WHY???
Who writes an entire blog about tootsie pops? but still, tootsie pops r pretty good
The new totsie roll flavors are good. You ought to make a mocha flavored tootsie pop.
You seem to really like Orange :3 I love orange - ever since I was little XD Still love it today!
Chocolate is not candy!
spot on about the mega ones!. Not comfortable in my mouth when walking my dog.
My order is 1.Lime 2.Lemon 3. Orange 4. Grape
5.Raspberry 6.Pompergrante 7. Watermelon ,do not care for cherry or chocolate at all and way too many of those flavors in the bags!
