Eat with your Eyes: Zero Bar (Canada)

Zero (Canada)

Here’s another bar I got a hold of and never reviewed. The American Zero Bar (made by Hershey’s) is like a white fudge Milky Way. I took its picture and then it promptly melted into an unreviewable puddle.

The Canadian Zero Bar is like a bar version of Ice Cubes. You can read The Candy Enthusiast’s reviews for more. Package image here.

Eat with your Eyes: Compartes Glace Fig

Compartes Glace Fig in Dark Chocolate

Last week I got some new trees. I have quite a little orchard going on in my back yard now. The new citrus, Mineola Tangelo, Meyer Lemon and Yuzu, join my Persian Lime and Fig trees. Of course nothing is bearing fruit right now, but walking around them and seeing the green figs certainly got my mouth watering.

Last year I went to Compartes in Brentwood and was blown away with the glace Figs.

Eat with your Eye: Peacock Caramel

Cacao Chocolatier

I stumbled across this find at a farmers market in Laguna Beach some years ago from a new chocolatier named at that time Cacao Chocolatier. I chose a selection of nine chocolates to try but when there was no website to direct readers to, I just forgot about it. (And ate them, of course.)

This wasn’t actually called a peacock caramel. I think it was just a fleur de sel.

A few years later this little confectioner is pretty hot and now named Christopher Michael Chocolatier.

Eat with your Eyes: KitKat Cookies Plus (Japan)

I neglected this one yesterday in the KitKat roundup: KitKat Cookies Plus.

KitKat

It’s not a bar, but a box of eight mini fingers (photo).

KitKat

I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was different about it. The cream center is more front and center than the wafers in this instance and feels like it has crushed vanilla cookies in it.

They were quite tasty, I enjoyed them more than the beverage themed ones made with the white confection. They were expensive though, I think I paid $3.50 for it - for that price I think I’d pick up some really good candy.

Eat with your Eyes: Pocket Coffee

Pocket Coffee

About a month ago we got a new dog. Since she’s a young dog she needs lots of exercise and my new ritual is to get up at 6 AM (I used to get up at 7:20AM) and taker her out for a two mile walk and several times a week stop at the dog park and let her play for a half an hour with other dogs. The relationship to candy? Well, losing an hour and a half of sleep and the addition of several miles of walking today (we walk in the evening too but I’m not losing sleep over that) is making me very tired.

Enter caffeine! Pocket Coffee is a chocolate covered espresso dollop. Three chocolates equals the caffeine in a single shot of espresso. Original review here. It’s a bit more expensive than plain espresso though, I paid $3.99 for a package of five pieces.

Eat with your Eyes: Haribo Cola Wheel

Cola Haribo Wheels

I picked up a few Haribo Cola Wheels at Mel & Rose a few weeks ago, mostly because I love cola but also because I love things that I can unroll.
